Rough Cut 4

Here is the fourth rough cut of my music video. This cut shows all of the narrative components of the video that I have edited. I feel that there are elements of the narrative that could potentially be improved upon and I certainly need to try to play around with the contrast between the flashback scenes and the present day scenes to distinguish between the sections more clearly. However, overall I am currently very happy with how the video is coming along, I am just waiting for Ben to have some spare time out of his annoyingly busy schedule to re-shoot the performance footage. Please enjoy!

Applying slow-motion

Last night I started to play around with applying slow motion to my flashback scenes to try and distinguish the difference between those clips and the clips of Ben in the street. To do this I had to right click on the pieces of footage that I wanted to be played in slow motion and select the speed/duration button. From there I could change the speed of the track by lowering or raising the percentage. I decided that lowering the speed by half would be enough for the footage to still fit with the song but would make the footage look more dream like to fit with the 'flashback' effect.

Rough Cut 3

I have added more to my music video. As well as revisiting some of the work that I have already done I have also completed the first cut of my second section. This section shows Ben's character moving more towards drugs as his coping mechanism and again shows flash backs of his relationship. In this cut I have experimented with using slow motion editing within the flash backs to make them appear more 'dream' like, however, I'm not sure whether I've got the speed right on the slow motion so this may still need to be played around with.

Editing update 2

Today I am adding on the second section of my narrative to my sequence using my premiere pro program at home.

So far the editing is going smoothly and I can tell that I'm feeling much more confident in how to use the software in comparison to my AS project. Things such as knowing when and where to cut and cutting in time with the music seem much stronger in this piece of work. I also feel like I'm less afraid of messing up or making a mistake as I know how to fix things and also how to adapt edits to make what I first thought was a mistake into a possible improvement for the overall piece.

Here are just a few bits and pieces that I have been working on recently.

Trying to action match:

The hardest section of this video to edit so far has been this action match where there is an exchange of drugs between the dealer and Ben. I had to edit it so that their hands exchanged at just the right moment for my to then cut to the close up shot to show the audience what was actually being swapped over.
I'm also fully aware that Elleah is playing the drug dealer here so I've tried to choose shots that show her face the least so it's less obvious to the audience that she is multi rolling.

Here you can see just how I have tried to fit the shots (highlighted in white) to the beats of the music so that they match up and flow better with the song.

I'm just about to start editing the final section of this second narrative installment so I will keep you updated with how that goes.
